Wisconsin Lakes Action Alert (September 21, 2013)
New bill would prevent reasonable restrictions on high capacity wells.
How many times does it have to be said? If too many mouths are drinking from too many straws, a glass of water runs empty awfully fast. As many folks in the Central Sands of Wisconsin can tell you, that’s exactly what’s happening as an ever-increasing number of high capacity wells suck up the groundwater that many of our lakes, not to mention our rural property owners and farmers, depend upon.
Now a new bill, SB302, would rollback the state’s groundwater protection by restricting the ability of DNR to regulate wells old and new, possibly even in cases where there is clear evidence that the well will have a negative impact.
